如同爱尔兰偶像组合Boyzone一样，Westlife的乍红可谓是欧洲偶像音乐界的两大传奇，皆以讨喜的外表和抒情流行曲风夺下了英国男孩团体Take That解散后的偶像音乐市场，而随着Boyzone团员近年来纷纷单飞，Westlife也日渐取代Boyzone成为英国少男少女心中的最佳偶像团体。Westlife的传奇从爱尔兰北部的Sligo开始，最初的团名叫做IOU。1998年，当时的Boyzone主唱Ronan Keating成为乐队的经纪人并改组了IOU，乐团的成员定格为Shane，Mark，Kian ，Brian和Nicky，乐队的名称也改为Westlife。1999年11月Westlife发表了首张同名专辑，不但在英国、爱尔兰两地分别得到了4白金与12白金的销量，在世界各地更拥有超越500万张的惊人销售量。在这张专辑中还史无前例地诞生了5首冠军曲。2000年11月份Westlife第二张专辑Coast To Coast，一举登上英国冠军。迄今为止，Westlife已经发行了5张专辑，他们惊人的销售成绩让他们成为欧洲地区继Take That与Boyzone之后最受欢迎的偶像团体。
